Balam Acab Making Love To the World One Beat At a Time.

As soon as I listened to Balam Acab I was captivated with is it’s unusual range of sexuality and dreamy content. Balam Acab has no problem creating this atmosphere with his EP Birds. It is both gorgeous and unusual, almost hypnotizing at times. A mixture of witch house, drone, and Lo-fi with waves of hiphop and sex influence and despite the recent hype over this feel of music, Balm set the bar pretty high for bedroom noise.

Balam Acab is Alec Koone, residing now in Pennsylvania, with much hype after his attention from Birds EP back in 2010. He’s still creating and recently just released his single, Ass Pop, which demands exactly that. I love an artist that creates an array of emotions, and Balam does this in an easy magic sort of way. I probably laid in my bed for 2 1/2 hours just listening, completely loosing track of time. The way he incorporates samples while distorting and layering a number of sounds is a witchy craft in itself. The sounds remind me of Animal Collective drowning out at sea, with some Explosions in the Sky, and Sigor Ros noise as well. What really sets it apart though is the sensuality in it all. The way he weaves the sounds together makes it hard to picture them any other way. The songs “Dream Out” and “Big Boy” both have this tantalizing effect where he almost creates a moment instead of a sound. Like he’s sampling the most purest of feelings, making it subjective enough to paste your own memories to the beat. So If you haven’t dived into any of his sweet music now is the perfect time to do so, and while you’re at it go see him live too, Balam Acab is currently opening for Mogwai and has just released some new tour dates.
