The Los Angeles based kid wonder Djemba Djemba formerly known as St. Andrew (no, not that one) released a new free EP today exclusively through his buddy Diplo’s Mad Decent/Jeffrees networks. From the sound of his productions I’d say he’s in the right place. He’s been making waves in the beat scene, releasing timeless gems from the highly addictive Is U Rollin? banger to his more recent remix of Fiona Apple’s Every Single Night. I Just Go EP offers two certified club friendly tracks which carries on the signature Mad Decent torch in full 808 glory. My favorite would have to be I Just Go. A laid back Moogish synth lead glues things quite nicely while a whirlwind of 808 snare bursts through the calm of nicely synced head nod stimulants. The EP strikes a near perfect balance between mainstream and the more experimental/underground resonance. It opens up limitless possibilities for future integration in such a way that seems undeniably familiar after examining Diplo’s assent into commercial success. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing Djemba Djemba productions on the radio featuring Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, or hell….even Kanye West.
