Sea Wolf – Old World Romance LP
Sea Wolf is back with their third album, Old World Romance. With that unmistakeable chord progression that has become Alex Brown Church's calling card, Old World Romance vacillates from lo-fi songs to hum along with like Priscilla, to tracks like Old Friend, in which you can get lost. At once stripped down, yet heady, Priscilla is a song to take comfort in. While Old Friend beautifully jumps around taking root in one spot, just before gripping your hand and pulling you to the next. A complete hard drive failure last year quite literally wiped the band's slate, clean forcing them to start anew on the album. Overall, it indeed reflects this fresh start; Old World Romance is elegantly softer than its predecessors. Lacking many of 2009's White Water, White Bloom strings, Sea Wolf quite literally provides a quintessentially romantic soundtrack to a fall day. With all clarity and perspective achieved after the summer sun's glare disappears from sight, Old World Romance contains just the right amount of autumnal sadness and the promise of a new season.
