FoF Label Launch Party Recap
A few members of the Deftune fam and I went to the FoF launch party at the Echoplex in Los Angeles last night. We were able to catch only the last part of the Mexicans With Guns set…but the few minutes that I heard/saw was SICK. Next up was Jogger. This was the first time I’ve seen them live. The moment they started playing, I stopped mid sentence during a conversation grabbed my drink and proceeded to make my way up to the front to check out what or WHO was making this amazing mixture of glitch core electronics, layered vocals, violin, and tripped out electric guitar riffs.
Check out a couple vids I took from my trusty ….high quality….beyond HD format point and click Canon camera. Don’t worry, the vids actually turned out looking and sounding great.
Please check back shortly…more videos are uploading…
I also managed to catch some of Peanut Butter Wolf’s Michael Jackson (RIP) tribute video mix.
Unfortunately we had to cut out early and we missed Daedelus. I’m sure it was mind blowing as always. Sorry Alfred…I did manage to buy one of your records though. Thanks FoF Music!

Simple Pleasures
Curators Jessilisa Morretti and Matthewdavid hosted Simple Pleasures at Subliminal Projects last night and I was completely taken by surprise. I heard a few bits and pieces about what was going to be presented but it didn’t really hit me until I got there.
As I entered I was greeted by unexplainable sounds that operated through different dimensions, frequencies, and unspecified instances of existence that reverberated through the walls and through the bodies of hypnotized listeners that were creating collages, lying on the ground, or just staring blankly into space.
I wish I had a real explanation for what was taking place but check out this video and maybe you can kind of understand what I’m talking about. Sound vibrations are created from touching the metallic tree sculpture and the sounds are running through tape- that big machine with tubes on the right. It delivered rich, warm, and powerful tones that for some unexplainable reason I enjoyed every bit as much as I would listening to a well composed/played piece of music. The frequencies were definitely affecting everyone’s brainwave patterns…I began to feel like mine were as time progressed. (If someone can comment- elaborate more on this it would be much appreciated)
I then decided to check out the tape cassette players hanging up on the walls. Each player contained a looping cassette tape playing different recordings of layered atmospheric sounds. That’s when it finally hit me on how amazing this all was. I think it was my first time experiencing sound being the entire focal point of an art exhibit. Listening to each tape was like looking at a painting. You couldn’t help but try to pick out the different textures, colors, and emotions within each recording.
I wish I would’ve stayed longer. Fortunately I was able to catch a little bit of Ras G before I left.
You’ll definitely be seeing me at the next one….hopefully I’ll remember to bring a pillow to sit on next time around.

VIBING
A couple of Deftune’s Djs were spinning in the middle of South Coast Plaza last Saturday from 3PM-6PM. If you checked us out DOPE! We definitely had a fun time with you all. Let us know if you’d like a copy of the playlist. We were sponsored by Oliver Peoples a sunglass and prescription frame store with equipment provided by Adidas. We spun an eclectic mix of down tempo, house, electro, hip hop, bmore, dubstep, and soul.

It was amazing to see people of all ages vibe out to the music.

We got little kids dancing and we were fortunate enough to have a couple bboys and bgirls busting some crazy moves for us.

It’s definitely something we’d love to do again. Look out for more upcoming events by following us on Twitter. Hit us up if you want us to spin for you.
Peace!

Sound Waves On Fire
Check out this classic physics experiment. When a tone is played the sound wave is played through the tube which effects the amount of gas that goes through each perforation. This is an amazing visual representation of a sound wave.

The Deftune fam sends its deepest thanks to Why? for providing us with an amazing show. They even hooked us up with a quick shout out! We’ll be posting up HD video highlights shortly!
Thanks!
