Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus – Low End Theory (Los Angeles)

Tonight At Low End Theory

This Wednesday, December 9th we are proud to present a massive line-up at Low End Theory. For the first time in eons, avant-rap icon Busdriver will headline the Low End stage. Opening sets by Oscar McClure (Leaving Records), Asura (Non Projects), and Bossasaurus (Oakland). Your residents Daddy Kev, Nobody, Gaslamp Killer and Nocando will also be in effect. Early arrival is always recommended for easy entry at Low End Theory:

busdriver 160x160 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)
BUSDRIVER
[Anti-]
On the tenuous fringes of what can be deemed “rap” there lies the reviled LA maverick, Busdriver. Who for years has been wowing unsuspecting audiences with his patented visceral onslaught of rants, rhyming and displaced musical sensibility. His many studio collaborations with Daddy Kev resulted in some of the proudest moments of the LA underground hip-hop legacy (Temporary Forever anyone?). Busdriver returns to Low End for his first solo show in over a years time.

oscarmcclure 160x90 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)
OSCAR MCCLURE
[Leaving Records]
Introducing the organic improvisations of Oscar McClure. Recording with instruments, and abstracting the Roland SP303’s standard usage as a recording device, Oscar McClure is a sonic eco-system of post-jazz, contemporary hip hop drumsters on a camping trip, and the avant garde compositions of mnortham and Jeph Jerman. Oscar has an upcoming release on Leaving Records.
http://www.leavingrecords.com

asura 160x90 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)
ASURA
[Non Projects]
The concept of Asura, as taken from the work of poet Kenji Miyazawa, is that of a dissolution of self and environment in the face of strong emotion. By employing this guise along with his training in the classical and jazz worlds as a bassist, cellist, guitarist, and trumpeter in such an electronic medium, Los Angeles based producer Ryan York produces a truly organic form of digital music.
http://www.myspace.com/iamasura

bossasaurus 160x90 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)
BOSSASAURUS
[Oakland, CA]
Egon Brainparts and Negatron Johnson are Bossasaurus. They actually both have mothers with fingernails, belly buttons and opposable thumbs. They did not coalesce from a heap of bones. They make genre-defying electronic music using a smorgasbord of analog synthesizers, effects, unique instruments and self-collected micro-samples. Come early and trip out!

DADDY KEV
[Alpha Pup]
Batting first on the Low End Theory lineup is legendary producer and label boss Daddy Kev. As a producer and engineer, he’s spent the last decade crafting classics for the likes of AWOL One, Busdriver, The Grouch, Sage Francis, Mix Master Mike, Abstract Rude, D-Styles, Freestyle Fellowship, The Shape Shifters and many more. His DJ sets are a high-tech affair with Kev primarily engaged in live remixes, slicing experimental beats and hip-hop classics to shreds.

dstyles 160x90 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)

[Funkshitup]
His virtuoso skills on the turntables have been compared to that of Jimi Hendrix and John Coltrane. As a former member of Invisibl Skratch Piklz and Beat Junkies, he toured the globe, helping transform turntablism into a global phenomenon. Now, the legendary D-Styles is back on the frontlines of underground culture, shredding your soul every week at Low End Theory.

gaslamp 160x90 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)
THE GASLAMP KILLER
[Low End Theory]
Over the course of the last few years, Gaslamp Killer has established a solid rep for devastating beats and intricate cuts. This nomadic West Coaster has steadily smashed the scene from San Diego to Los Angeles to San Francisco, earning the respect of heavyweight players in the process. Bear witness to one of his epic sets and see what the buzz is all about.

nocando 160x90 Asura, Busdriver, Oscar McClure, and Bossasaurus Low End Theory (Los Angeles)

He’s no longer a secret. After winning the 2007 Scribble Jam MC Battle Championship, Nocando has been catapulted to new levels of international fame. He spent many Thursday nights honing his skills at Project Blowed, and has broken the dreams and hopes of countless would-be-MCs.

Daedelus Returns To Low End Theory For A Special Extended Performance

This Wednesday, November 25th we are proud to present a special holiday edition of Low End Theory. For the first time since July, L.A.’s prodigal son Daedelus returns to the Low End stage for an extended one hour set. Residents Daddy Kev, Nobody and Nocando will also be in the house. Early arrival is always recommended for easy entry at Low End Theory:

daedelus 160x160 Daedelus Returns To Low End Theory For A Special Extended Performance
DAEDELUS
*** EXTENDED SET ***
[Ninja Tune]
One of L.A.’s most daring artists, this young musical romantic weaves together a true “love-sound” that falls between honeyed melody and avant-electronics. Daedelus chops and splices disparate acoustic sources into incredible works of staggering resonance. Contrasting IDM styled cut-ups with childlike 30s arrangements, he has refined a style that has no imitators. Daedelus has been a stalwart of Low End Theory since our inception, and we consider him to be one of our residents-at-large. This night he returns home for his first Low End appearance since July.

FLYING LOTUS
[Warp]
Flying Lotus is a massive force in independent music, redefining the boundaries of contemporary electronic music with every move. Plug Research dropped his first album 1983 to unanimous, global critical acclaim, while his most recent Los Angeles opus on Warp Records has been the template for beat music. That “next level shit” artists are always talking about? This is it. A certified Low End hero, Flying Lotus returns with brand new heat for the Beat Invitational.

jneirojarel 160x160 Tonight! Low End Theory 3 Year Anniversary + Beat Invitational
JNEIRO JAREL
[Lex Records]
Jneiro Jarel (a.k.a. Dr. Who Dat?) has amassed a global following based on his stunning Beat Journey and Beyond 2morrow albums on the legendary Lex Records label. Imagine a parallel universe with drums, trumpets and various vocals, all cut to perfection using re-engineered Dalek lasers, pro-scratch mixers and brightly coloured computers that run on sugar cane.

Enter Free The Robots, a producer who pays homage to the past with a drive for the future blending elements of jazz, electronic, hip-hop, soul, psychedelic rock and noise. Somewhere between soulful-melodic bliss, head-nodding grooves and aggressively-driven rhythms, harmony and total freedom stands for those with open minds. A perfect example of the Low End doctrine.

As one-half of the FLYamSAM production duo (countered by Flying Lotus), Michigan-transplant SAMIYAM is an exciting addition to the L.A. beat producer community. He recently dropped an EP on the renowned UK-based dubstep label Hyperdub, while his Rap Beats Vol. 1 on Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint has been dropping jaws worldwide. He’s lit the L.A. beat battle scene on fire, with countless victories under his belt, slaying competitors from far and wide. In other news, Dibiase also recently inked a full-length album deal with Alpha Pup Records. We’re geeked to hear the newness.

[Los Angeles]
My Hollow Drum is a collective of aspiring DJs, musicians and artists devoted to their fixation of art and sound. The organization of the WE THE PEOPLE festival was conceived due to a great need for a stimulant in social awareness and an encompassing platform within the urban community to inspire the involvement and active participation of the conscious youth populous throughout the country.

While providing a vastly artistic and intellectually satisfying array of talent at the concert series, The WE THE PEOPLE festival’s primary objective involves reaching out to the myriad of organizations, groups, like-minded promotion firms, and of course artists, in order to conceive the greatest arena in which to engage and then garner participation from a grossly uninformed youth audience, including all other age groups affected by contemporary matters that involve our communities.

By in large, the WE THE PEOPLE festival aspires to continue to promote and suggest a much needed platform that calls for a voice for the youth of our nation and those artists they credit with acknowledging their daily struggles within the environments that surround them, socially, culturally and politically.

Progressive and Positive, the We the People Festival promotes:

Non Partisan, Non Violent, Environmental and Politically Conscious Views.

“Stand up, Speak up, Unite!”

For Immediate Release

Deftune.com is known around the globe as a source for quality hand picked independent music. Its mission is to help promote independent music and record labels. The site has grown exponentially since its beta launch last year and is now concentrating efforts on taking their web based mission to live shows and events. Previous shows have featured artists such as Teebs (Dublab, Brainfeeder) as well as popular Los Angeles based acts Simple Citizens, and The Soulutionaries.

Their next show coming up on October 10, 2009 promises to deliver even more. This time around they’ll be featuring Dr. Strangeloop aka David Wexler from Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder at the Blue Monkey Lounge in Hollywood. Strangeloop has performed with Lotus on several occasions as well as put on a show at the latest Coachella. David combines visual media art with beautifully composed experimental music creating an experience like no other. Deftune’s line up of DJs will also be offering the same level of quality that you’ll hear on their website which will include music from a wide variety of genres including electronic, hip hop, soul, funk, dance, and experimental.
