What is Deftune?

Deftune.com is a music blog focused on promoting independent artists and labels- specifically ones we think deserve recognition for their work. It’s basically like we’re DJs making recommendations. Most DJs these days are forced to play what’s popular verses playing what we feel should be played. The DJs are the ones that create the scenes like how it was back before large corporations took over the music industry. So we’re bringing that element back full force to ensure that you only hear quality content on our site.

Due to corporate control over television and radio highly talented independent artists remain virtually unknown. We feel that they’re the ones that deserve all the airplay and recognition, but based on how clear channel and other major corporations conduct business you usually need exuberant amounts of money to get decent airplay. Back in the day it was all about playing artists because they were talented, and that is why you hear a lot of crap when you turn on the radio. A certain type of scene developed around this framework and we’re not digging what we’ve seen or heard come out of it. Also, There are many talented artists that HAVE been signed on to major labels but they usually lose all creative control, lose out on a lot of their royalties, or are pushed aside if they are suddenly categorized as unmarketable. When that happens the artists suffer and the world suffers.

Having said that, we want to make an impact and our goal is to be a major source for finding great independent talents, music, and events and educate people about the importance of supporting independent music. We have affiliates such as I-Tunes, Amazon.com, and Emusic.com- the # 1 independent music distributor. We will encourage the purchasing of their music, or tickets to their shows.

In doing so you help the artist directly and assist in the progression of their music as well as in the expansion of Deftune LLC. We want to introduce our favorite artists to a broad audience and we would achieve this by working hard to develop a large following through an extensive marketing campaign and building key relationships within the industry.

In order to support the artists we make sure that all of the music you hear on Deftune is purchased through our MP3 distributors. There are no free downloads unless it is promotional material provided by the artist or label.

Our goals within the next year are to create exclusive VLOG content featuring our favorite artists, monthly podcast shows, and actual Deftune sponsored events.

We welcome you to be a part of the Deftune family and our cause. 100% of the members of Deftune Team have music backgrounds or are passionate about music. If you’d like to be a contributor please send us a message or help us by simply spreading the word!

Thank you for your support!
