J Dilla Foundation Launches Newly Designed Site + Logo Design Contest

dillasitescreenshot J Dilla Foundation Launches Newly Designed Site + Logo Design Contest

DETROIT, MI – Today, the J Dilla Foundation formally launched a new MPC inspired website, www.jdillafoundation.org, along with the announcement of a Logo Design Contest for the Foundation. The newly re-established J Dilla Foundation is hard at work to re-brand their public and aesthetic image.

The new website was designed by Brooklyn–based designer and emcee Spec Boogie. The design is a tribute to J Dilla’s love for, and use of, the MPC. The website will serve as the hub for all J Dilla Foundation information, events and program/fundraising updates, as well as a platform for J Dilla fans to share artwork, comments and photos.

Kindra Parker, J Dilla Foundation Vice-Chair, said, “We are so excited about the reorganized Foundation! We’re eager to have a new image, and ready to embark on new ventures. It’s really important to us that fans are a part of our growth process. How awesome is it that somebody who loves Dilla can create the trademark to his legacy? We want to give everyone a chance to express themselves and pay homage.”

The logo design contest will run from February 23, 2010 (12:00PM EST) through March 23, 2010 (11:59M EST). In addition to design credit for the logo, the winner will receive a prize packet from Stones Throw & Stussy. Any additional prizes will be announced here on www.jdillafoundation.org.

Designers must include the words “J DILLA FOUNDATION” in all designs. All logos should be hosted online by the artist and submitted as a link. Finalists will be required to submit their entry in both color and black & white, high resolution, .JPG & .EPS files. All logo submissions should be sent to logos@jdillafoundation.org by the contest deadline. Official contest rules can be found here.

The J Dilla Foundation is a non-profit public charity created to honor the life and legacy of legendary producer and emcee James “J Dilla” Yancey. The mission of the Foundation is to help fund inner-city music programs, and provide scholarships to students attending schools with progressive music curricula, which includes studies in the genres of hip-hop, R&B, and soul.

Man/Miracle To Release Debut Album This Week

manmiracle Man/Miracle To Release Debut Album This Week

Man/Miracle
has been getting rave reviews from everywhere lately and it’s no surprise with the quality sound they bring in their debut full length album The Shape of Things. It’s a solid offering with catchy tunes to keep you occupied – humming / singing / whistling uncontrollably is a given. If you’re a fan of Vampire Weekend then this is your cup of tea.

The story behind Man/Miracle is an inspiring piece that will someday grace the pages of a motivational book or inspirational magazine. The band had gone through its share of struggles from one member (Dylan “Swimp” Travis) breaking his back to the group having to live in destitute conditions in order to continue making music. The album cover itself is symbolic of their struggle reflective of the title. Pictured is a building known to all as the Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea which has slowly been following apart but yet still under construction (since 1987). This album is about “living in this space that’s both crumbling and full of life.” A touching story indeed, so touching that I hope you cry uncontrollably. If you don’t, then you must be completely devoid of any human emotion and probably have hidden urges to destroy humanity. Highly Recommended.

Qua aka Cornel Wilczek Is A Musical Genius Watch Him Now Run In His Underwear – New Album Q&A Out

Qua07 F Qua aka Cornel Wilczek Is A Musical Genius Watch Him Now Run In His Underwear New Album Q&A Out

His music is a dizzying display of playful electronics. It’s so ridiculously good that you just have to laugh. Yeah, it’s that sick. Sick as in dope as in amazing. What I like most about Qua’s music is the child like innocence that it brings. There’s no sign of ego, showmanship, or signs of biting at all. It just is what it is…pure dopeness. I’m listening to the album as I type this and I feel like tossing this aside and busting some backflips off a skateboard while hanging on to a moving car going at the average speed of 88 mph (weaving through traffic on the 101/110 interchange of course). If you’re not too familiar with his music, he’s currently at the forefront of Melbourne Australia’s electronic music scene and has toured with the likes of Ratatat, Caribou, Four Tet, Clue To Kalo and Trioski. Q&A is a is a collection of twelve compositions brushed with strokes of guitar and electronics on a canvas of drums provided by James Cecil (Architecture in Helsinki) and Laurence Pike (Savath + Savalas, Pivot, Triosk). I predict you’ll be listening to this album non-stop on repeat for a VERY long time. Highly Recommended

A Case Of Mistaken Identity? RXRY – Makes Eyeballs Roll Back And May Cause Unstoppable Seizures

rxry A Case Of Mistaken Identity? RXRY Makes Eyeballs Roll Back And May Cause Unstoppable Seizures

The question on everyone’s mind besides “why am I here?” is “who the hell is RXRY?” Don’t ask me who I quoted that from. It’s been an endless guessing game with fingers mostly pointed towards Noah Lennox of Animal Collective. Recent photos from RXRY appear to falsify such claims. Sure it’s a mystery that everyone would like to solve but honestly I don’t really give a flying *uck because right now, the music is what we’ll be focusing on. Not to put down RXRY’s ingenious marketing blitz, I’m just saying. The latest self entitled release from RXRY provides us, the listeners with enough momentum through electrifying ambiance, and hypnotic pulses of saw tooth waves that float on layer upon layer of addictive delay rhythms to cure our unstoppable ADHD epidemic. Our attention is all his / hers and there’s no escaping it. Highly Recommended

Most Disturbing Podcast Mix…EVER – Low End Theory Podcast # 12 Featuring D-Styles & Shlohmo

lowend12cover Most Disturbing Podcast Mix...EVER Low End Theory Podcast # 12 Featuring D Styles & Shlohmo

Warning…Discretion Is Advised.

Disturbing in a good way but almost equally disturbing is the cover art for Low End Theory’s 12th podcast. I love how I always feel like busting out the old scratch records every time I hear D-Styles on the mix…and indeed I did. Bangin’ beats that make you want to pop, lock, bust a quick freestyle, rock out or stab someone in no particular order or even possibly simultaneously. Make sure to burn this to CD or transfer it to your iPod because this deserves to play loudly in the car with the bass turned up max.

Shlohmo makes a smooth entrance on the second half, enticing and curious as his set builds to a magnificent collage of sounds and a thundering roar of killer bass induced SPLs that would make any brain explode, creating..in theory…the most glorious death anyone could ever experience. Listen to this many times and prepare yourself for his live show tonight at Low End Theory. It’s going to be a great night featuring music from the residents, Ernest Gonzales, and Asura. Courtesy of FoF Music, Non-Projects, and Alpha Pup Records. Highly Recommended

Dem Hunger To Release New Album Caveman Smack Feb. 23, 2010 On Leaving Records

demhunger Dem Hunger To Release New Album Caveman Smack Feb. 23, 2010 On Leaving Records

I’ve really been digging Dem Hunger’s sounds lately. I can best describe the music as a flowing movement of manipulated looping sound textures with plenty of snap crack and pop…the good kind. In fewer words imagine psyched out, mangled, Dilla inspired beats . Make way for his album to be released world wide on Feb. 23, 2010 through major digital services. The record will be appearing on matthewdavid’s Leaving Records. You can pre-order a limited edition cassette version…yes I said cassette… with art booklet on Leaving’s website. Highly Recommended

Son Lux Releases New EP – Weapons

weapons 400x400 Son Lux Releases New EP Weapons

Once the first track on this EP hit I was hooked. The more I listened the more I began to believe at any moment my entire world and understanding of music could turn upside down. How can anything sound THIS good? It shouldn’t come as a surprise to myself or anyone after the release of Son Lux’s critically acclaimed debut album At War With Walls & Mazes. The EP was born from a set of inspired productions by Anticon artists Alias and Polyphonic, plus seasoned composer Nico Muhly and they all refer back to a single point of origin – “Weapons.” Strikingly beautiful electronic progressions and melodies, classically inspired compositions, haunting vocals, all mixed and engineered with intricate detail. Dubstep inspired bass lines and highly compressed Hip Hop inspired drums holds everything in this EP together perfectly. Highly Recommended.

dimlite Dimlite Roo / Feedback Children (Digital Single)

Dimlite continues to push the envelope in sound design and beat manipulation. Swaying electronics dance around like trees in the winds of time signatures and cultivates a universal psychic mind dialogue that seems to recycle thoughts and energy from some distant creative genius. WTF? I’d like to hear some rhymes over these beats. Download the single today though Dimlite’s Bandcamp. Highly Recommended
