As we wait impatiently for DJ Food aka Strictly Kev’s forthcoming album Stolen Moments, a new installment has arrived to temporarily solve this hunger crisis. “Sentinel (Shadow Guard)” is the first ever studio collaboration between Kev and longtime DJ partner and Solid Steel producer DK. A track of contrasts – harp, acoustic guitar and ringing electronics versus filthy bass, heavy drums and rattling percussion. All held together by Ninja labelmate King Cannibal working the mixing desk, the results are driving and sinuous, but subtle, too. I recommend picking up the 12″ which has an A2 poster cover of exclusive artwork by 2000AD artist Henry Flint with colours and design by Openmind aka Strictly Kev as well as the digital version containing 3 bonus tracks. When I first put this on the first thought that came to my head was welcome to the Twilight Zone. “Part of the experience is discovering your self discovery, ” packing a wide array of psychedelic ambiance backed by raw drum beats this 30 minute long EP is still not enough. Luckily this is one of 3 leading up to the album which should keep you preoccupied until then. Highly Recommended
