A couple of Deftune’s Djs were spinning in the middle of South Coast Plaza last Saturday from 3PM-6PM. If you checked us out DOPE! We definitely had a fun time with you all. Let us know if you’d like a copy of the playlist. We were sponsored by Oliver Peoples a sunglass and prescription frame store with equipment provided by Adidas. We spun an eclectic mix of down tempo, house, electro, hip hop, bmore, dubstep, and soul.
It was amazing to see people of all ages vibe out to the music.
We got little kids dancing and we were fortunate enough to have a couple bboys and bgirls busting some crazy moves for us.
It’s definitely something we’d love to do again. Look out for more upcoming events by following us on Twitter. Hit us up if you want us to spin for you.
Expect something new every month. Like his live shows you never know what you’re going to expect. He’s hauling massive equipment for this using classic synths, drum machines, vocoders etc. If you’ve never seen his live show performing as the other half of Poly along with the Reflektor definitely check this out. It’s definitely GOING DOWN! Expect mind blowing experimental, futuristic, electro sounds mixed with a dash of other worldly skratching.
Here’s a refreshing track for you called Like A Child by Candian electronica pop group Junior Boys. You can find it on their full length album So This Is Goodbye. This album definitely has a bit of a catchy electro, funky, soul-vibe. You’ll find yourself placing a majority of the songs on constant repeat. Also check I-Tunes exclusive The Dead Horse EP.

A couple of Non-American-North Americans team up on this track. Indie rock singer [Leslie] Feist provides the oh so sweet vocals and Rapper/Producer K-os brings a beat that knocks. Open Season (2006) is a remix album released by the Canadian singer featuring collaborations that she’s done on her original works.
[Other notable collabs: Postal Service (American Electro-Indie-Pop) and Kings of Convenience (German Indie-Folk-Pop).]

Wow, I was having the hardest time figuring out which track I wanted to post up. EVERY song on this album is amazing! If Eliot Lipp were to put out singles EVERY song could be a single. I’m not joking around here people. I’m dead serious. If you’re not doing anything productive right now I suggest you pick up his album The Outside before you even finishing the rest of this! This album sounds AMAZING. For all you Los Angelinos who haven’t heard of this guy I know you’ll be happy to hear that he was a fellow LA citizen. He was also heavily influenced by Hip Hop growing up and it’s quite evident in his production style. His sound consists of various analog synths so you hear that fat warmth throughout. He was discovered and has worked heavily with Scott Herren aka Prefuse 73. He has various releases under different labels including Warp, and Eastern Developments.
Alright, so I decided that The Outside is my favorite. It’s got a laid back, yet energetic feel. There’s a lot of space between the loudest and quietest part of the track which I like because it give you a lot of room to breath and it’s not overwhelming. The drums hit hard, it’s got this catchy pumping bass line, and the synth lead keeps you wondering but guides you throughout the entire song. Enjoy!

This is a track entitled Dirt Dont Hirt by Ricci Rucker from his album Dirty Soap – EP released under the label Epitome Of Fresh. This is one of my favorite tracks/albums due to the complexity, rawness and energy that it delivers. I don’t care what anyone says, this dude is a musical genius. He revolutionized the Turntablism/Scratch scene. He’s toured with some of the greatest turntable musicians on the PLANET. In 2003 he was part of the historic Bastard Language Tour featuring Mike Boo, D-Styles, Excess, and Toadstyle. He pushed scratching’s musical boundaries with Sketchbook which he worked on with Mike Boo. It was created using mainly turntables and a mixer. Next he release the album Fuga which featured 20 different musicians that he recorded and sampled to create a 50 minute long track. He has a single out called Rrrrap and is currently working on several projects that includes Poly- a partnership with The Reflektor aka GB creating live electro using only analog synths, Teeter Totters a punk, new wave, hip hop production, and Gunkhole which is an almost all turntable band featuring D-Styles Mike Boo and Ace providing live drumming. In addition to all of that he’s the co-inventor of the Vestax Controller 1 Turntable! Definitely be on the look out for this guy.
