Fat Friday Music Recap: Baths, DJ Far East, Olney Clark, Fol Chen

Greetings FRIENDS. Hope you’ve all had an amazing week. As it comes to a close (damn time flies…) and I prepare for a lovely weekend of hopefully more sun and blue skies, I’ve prepared some amazing music picks for you to devour. I’m going to break it up into two segments. I’ll have part two up sometime tomorrow so stay on the look out. First up I have local Los Angeles native Baths who has been breaking a lot of ground lately from amazing live shows to a new highly anticipated album entitled Cerulean to drop on the Anticon label on June 22, 2010. I recently featured him on Deftune a short while ago but now I’ve got two serious tracks for your enjoyment. Baths’ musical journey began at a tender age of 4. He began recording his own original music at age 13 inspired by the likes of Bjork. He further explored and pushed boundaries experimenting with electronic and acoustic layers that compliment each others sound flawlessly. Some of you may know of his work under the alias Post-Foetus. He would eventually spark the interest of Daedelus and was invited to perform at Destroy LA and that opportunity would forever change his sound and give way to his current project under the alias Baths. He has also recently been invited to be a guest resident at the infamous Low End Theory in May 2010. Keep on the look out for the new album. It sounds AMAZING.
“Halls”
“Maximalist”

The homie from New York DJ Far East has hit me with some siiiiick mash ups and it’s all available here for your listening pleasure. This is one of the hardest working dudes I know. I mean he’s all about the music 24/7. I’ll be posting some future show dates for all you east coast music freaks in a minute. PEEP.
“I Missed Two Weeks”
“Heard Trouble Stirring”
“First Tribeday Funk”
“As Serious As Your Influence”
“CONCONCONHOPHOPHOP”

Olney Clark is set to release his newest album next week on April 13th and they’ve released two tracks from the album for your listening pleasure. The album is rich with massive symphonic sounds and carries a sort of cinematic quality that blasts through with an extreme emphasis in richness, depth, and clarity. The album came about during Olney’s Ph.D. in algorithmic algebraic geometry in Edinburgh, Scotland and Clark’s lost months of limbo and relocation from Los Angeles to Texas following the death of his father and grandfather. It serves as a celebration of the gifts of solitude and a warning of their costs. Enjoy…
“Tea and Thunderstorms”
“Josefin the Writer”

Alright, I’m starting to wind down as I’m writing this. I think the music is too much for me to handle all at once. Damn…I’ll have to continue this tomorrow but first I’ve got a little something from Fol Chen, one of my favorite bands announced recently that they are set to release their new album Part II: The New December on July 6, 2010 through the Asthmatic Kitty label. There’s still a lot of mystery behind the group as its members remain behind masks and secret aliases which is almost an exact reflection of their music which usually employs an eclectic selection of sounds and otherworldly lyrics. Check out this track featuring vocals from Kárin Tatoyan. It’s an interesting mix featuring eastern influenced sounds covering an almost recognizable tune fuzzed out with some funky drums and bass lines. Booyah! DONE!
