Preview Bonobo’s New Black Sands LP + Tour Announced

bonobo Preview Bonobos New Black Sands LP + Tour Announced

Earlier this week it was announced that Bonobo would be providing the production for Andreya Triana’s album. Prepare for a one two punch with his own album being released on March 29, 2010 through Ninja Tune. Included are two tracks as a preview of what’s to come. Andreya’s vocals once again shine through energizing 2 step drum patterns floating atop smooth low end bass lines glued together by discrete pulsating synth filters. Included with this amazing production is a remix contributed by Warrior One. The energy level suddenly increases ten fold as a slow filtered synth line balances out the rhythm section. When the bass hits it’s all over. I can just imagine the ensuing chaos as a result of all the insanity. Highly Recommended

Blockhead – The Music Scene

themusicscene 1417x1424 Blockhead The Music Scene

New York’s Tony Simon aka Blockhead returns to deliver his most unrivaled and creative work yet. Emotion is a key ingredient here but there is no simple formula to be found as intricately programmed beats drive a complex array of sound and harmonics. I agree with Tony that this is definitely his most musical work to date. When you listen to this album you think you’re heading in one direction when suddenly a myriad of subtle audible cues are thrown in to break your focus as each measure continues building up to…well…you’ll just have to listen for yourself. Every track I highly recommend.

Get Ready For DJ Food – The Shape Of Things That Hum EP – Dec. 14th On Ninja Tune

DJ Food EP Cover

As we wait impatiently for DJ Food aka Strictly Kev’s forthcoming album Stolen Moments, a new installment has arrived to temporarily solve this hunger crisis. “Sentinel (Shadow Guard)” is the first ever studio collaboration between Kev and longtime DJ partner and Solid Steel producer DK. A track of contrasts – harp, acoustic guitar and ringing electronics versus filthy bass, heavy drums and rattling percussion. All held together by Ninja labelmate King Cannibal working the mixing desk, the results are driving and sinuous, but subtle, too. I recommend picking up the 12″ which has an A2 poster cover of exclusive artwork by 2000AD artist Henry Flint with colours and design by Openmind aka Strictly Kev as well as the digital version containing 3 bonus tracks. December 14th! Get it!

DJ Food – One Man’s Weird Is Another Man’s World EP

djfood DJ Food One Mans Weird Is Another Mans World EP

DJ Food’s newest release One Man’s Weird Is Another Man’s World DJ Food One Mans Weird Is Another Mans World EP (8 years since his last) is nothing short of spectacular. When I first put this on the first thought that came to my head was welcome to the Twilight Zone. “Part of the experience is discovering your self discovery, ” packing a wide array of psychedelic ambiance backed by raw drum beats this 30 minute long EP is still not enough. Luckily this is one of 3 leading up to the album which should keep you preoccupied until then. Highly Recommended

Track Breakdown

The Illectrik Hoax features Nathaniel Pearn aka Natural Self aka one half of The Broken Keys in a role he’s not normally known for – vocalist. Kev approached him after hearing an uncredited vocalist on two Broken Keys tracks which turned out to be Nathaniel’s first forays into singing.

extract from Stolen Moments is the first of several variations on a theme that will run through the forthcoming album of the same name. Co-written with PC and seeing the light of day in remixed form after being shelved at the last minute for the Kaleidoscope album.

All Covered In Darkness Part 1 hosts guest appearances – in sample form – from two artists previously associated with DJ Food. Ken Nordine should need no introduction, he provides the verses whilst the harmonies of The Dragons fill the choruses. The good Dr. Rubberfunk joins in on drums to glue the whole thing together and then freq’s out on Part 2 as things get heavy.

A Trick Of The Ear
A 13 and half minute polyrhythmic percussion epic mixed by ex Tortoise member Bundy K Brown who also provides a remix with an epic title to match. Headphone music based on circular rhythms aimed at the head rather than the feet.

Colours Beyond Colours
Meditations on colours from far out in space, looking back through the Kaleidoscope.
